چکیده

The coastal waters utilization that has potential to be developed in Barru regency is the cultivation of pearl oysters (Pinctada maxima). However, get maximum results, site selection through inventory activities and mapping an important early stage do. purpose this study was assess suitability for maxima) farming. method used current were characteristics analysis, plankton abundance SID analysis (Simpson's index diversity), oyster farming by weighting. Conditions physical parameters i.e tidal characterized a mix or semidiurnal tides which two high low each day. ranged from 14 until 69 cm/s. Water depths contour 5 >200 meters water temperature relatively at first transitional season (May) 30.1 31.6 0C. Chemical parameters, such as salinity, dissolved oxygen, pH, nitrate still met quality standard marine waters. posphat concentration estuary had exceeded level , >0.015 mg/L. with very appropriate status area 3,201 ha.

Detection of marine birnavirus in the Japanese pearl oyster Pinctada fucata and seawater from different depths.

This study examines the seasonal changes of marine birnavirus (MABV) in seawater and the Japanese pearl oyster Pinctada fucata reared at different depths (2 and 15 m). Oysters and seawater were collected in 1998, and a 2-step PCR was carried out to detect MABV. Virus isolation was performed on the PCR-positive samples in the oyster. The detection rate of the MABV genome in the oyster was low du...

Determination of Gender in the Pearl Oyster Pinctada margaritifera

The pearl industry in French Polynesia is based on exploitation of natural stocks of the blacklip pearl oyster (Pinctada margaritifera). It generates an annual turnover of €90 million. Improvements in pearl quality need genetic studies to improve the populations. This pearl oyster is a protandric species, in which the sex ratio normally is biased toward males. There is an increasing interest in...

Genetic linkage map of the pearl oyster, Pinctada martensii (Dunker)

Genetic linkage maps were constructed with ampli¢ed fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) and microsatellite markers for the pearl oyster, Pinctada martensii (Dunker), the main bivalve used for marine pearl production in Asia. Twenty-four AFLP and 84 microsatellite primer pairs were used for linkage analysis in a full-sib family with two parents and 78 o¡spring. Of the 2357 AFLP fragments generat...

Evaluation of selected substrates for collection of hatchery reared black-lip pearl oyster (Pinctada margaritifera) spat

An experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of collector materials and position on Pinctada margaritifera spat attachment. Settlement on polyethylene pipes (54.6%) was significantly higher (P < 0.05) than on plastic baskets (25%). Significantly higher (P < 0.05) spat catch was recorded from the collectors which were installed on lower height of settlement tank than upper. The number o...
